Virat Kohli’s Strategic Investment in Agilitas Sports: A Game-Changer for the Sporting Goods Industry

Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli has made headlines with his recent investment in Agilitas Sports, acquiring a 1.94% stake for Rs 40 crore (approximately $4.7 million). This move not only expands Kohli’s growing portfolio but also marks a significant milestone for Agilitas Sports, a company that’s quickly becoming a key player in the sporting goods industry.

Virat Kohli’s Expanding Business Ventures

Kohli’s investment in Agilitas Sports adds to his diverse portfolio, which already includes Rage Coffee, Digit Insurance, Mobile Premier League (MPL), and Wrogn. His strategic involvement in startups showcases his keen interest in entrepreneurship beyond cricket.

Agilitas Sports: A Rising Star

Founded in 2023 by former Puma India head Abhishek Ganguly, Agilitas Sports has quickly gained traction. The company employs an integrated model, combining manufacturing, brand licensing, and retail. Recently, it acquired Mochiko Shoes, known for producing footwear for brands like Adidas and Puma. Agilitas is also building its own brands, including Lotto in India and Australia, with a strong focus on “Make in India.”

Investment Details and Shareholding

The recent funding round saw Agilitas Sports valued at Rs 2,058 crore (approximately $242 million) post-money. The board allotted 3,61,611 class 2 CCPS at an issue price of Rs 1,106 each. Alongside Kohli, SMLINE Ventures and cricketer Abhishek Sharma also invested Rs 3 crore. Mauritius-based Infinity Direct Holdings emerged as the largest shareholder with a 37.73% stake, followed by CEO Abhishek Ganguly at 18.26%, and Nexus Venture Partners at 9.16%.

Kohli’s Role in Agilitas Sports

Interestingly, Kohli recently ended his Rs 110 crore endorsement deal with Puma India, which began in 2017. The deal was reportedly valued at Rs 300 crore at the time of exit in 2025. Kohli’s involvement with Agilitas Sports is expected to go beyond being a brand ambassador; he will play a role in business decisions, potentially influencing the company’s strategic direction.

The Impact of Celebrity Investments on Startups

Celebrity investments can significantly impact a startup’s growth and visibility. With Kohli’s backing, Agilitas Sports is likely to attract more attention and possibly more investors. Similar examples include Jay-Z’s investment in Uber and Ashton Kutcher’s involvement with Airbnb, both of which saw substantial growth post-investment.

Future Prospects for Agilitas Sports

Agilitas Sports’ strategic acquisitions and focus on building its own brands position it well for future growth. The company’s emphasis on “Make in India” aligns with national initiatives and could foster local manufacturing and employment. The question remains: How will Agilitas leverage Kohli’s influence to expand its market presence?

Conclusion

Virat Kohli’s investment in Agilitas Sports is a testament to his strategic acumen and belief in the company’s potential. As Agilitas continues to expand and innovate, it will be interesting to see how Kohli’s involvement shapes its journey. For those interested in the intersection of sports, business, and innovation, Agilitas Sports is a company to watch.
