BigBasket’s consumer-facing arm, Innovative Retail Concepts, lost ₹3,073 crore in FY26, up 66% from ₹1,850 crore a year earlier, according to Tata Sons’ annual report. Revenue grew 7.7% to ₹8,223 crore over the same period.
The widening loss comes less than two years after the Tata Digital-backed grocer pivoted entirely to quick commerce in August 2024, a shift that raised costs across logistics, dark stores and customer acquisition.
How BigBasket Compares
Zepto reported ₹22,624 crore in revenue and ₹5,905 crore in losses for FY26. Blinkit, the quick-commerce leader, posted ₹15,664 crore in revenue and adjusted EBITDA of ₹102 crore in Q1 FY27.
BigBasket’s B2B arm, Supermarket Grocery Supplies, held revenue flat at ₹2,298 crore with losses steady at ₹102 crore. Combined, the two units logged ₹10,521 crore in revenue against ₹3,175 crore in losses.
BigBasket accounted for roughly 64% of Tata Digital’s total FY26 losses, which reached nearly ₹5,000 crore group-wide as the parent also absorbed losses at 1mg Healthcare and Tata Payments.
The company has changed leadership since the pivot: Amazon veteran Amit Nanda took over as CEO after co-founder Hari Menon’s departure. BigBasket has also announced plans to cut its operating footprint to around 40 cities from a wider presence.
Blinkit’s adjusted EBITDA of ₹102 crore in Q1 FY27 stands against BigBasket’s accelerating losses in the same category.
