Bengaluru-based NORI, a women-first travel gear brand, has secured $350,000 in a pre-seed funding round. The round was led by Rebalance, with participation from Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma through his investment vehicle VSS Investco, and a group of angel investors from the consumer and e-commerce sectors. This investment highlights a growing interest in niche markets and gender-specific product innovation within the Indian startup ecosystem.

### NORI’s Unique Approach

Founded in 2025 by Meenakshi Vyas and Rashika Nayak, NORI aims to redefine travel gear for women. Vyas, with her experience in senior roles at Myntra, PharmEasy, and Reliance Retail, combines her insights into consumer behavior with Nayak’s extensive expertise in product design. Together, they have launched a product line that includes luggage, bags, packing cubes, and travel organisers. Their recent product, the Carry On Wheelie, is a cabin-sized trolley bag that caters specifically to the packing habits and ergonomic needs of women. NORI claims to have served over 4,000 customers, with an annual revenue run-rate of Rs 2 crore.

### The Competitive Landscape and Funding Environment

NORI’s entry into the travel gear market comes at a time when the industry is ripe for disruption. Traditional luggage brands have largely focused on generic designs, leaving a gap for tailored solutions. NORI’s emphasis on design and functionality addresses the specific needs of women travelers, a segment often overlooked by mainstream brands. The pre-seed funding round, led by Rebalance—a firm known for investing in gender-focused startups—and supported by high-profile backers like Vijay Shekhar Sharma, underscores the potential seen in NORI’s business model.

The Indian startup ecosystem has witnessed a surge in gender-focused ventures, with investors increasingly looking to back companies that address specific consumer needs. This trend is part of a broader movement towards more inclusive and diverse entrepreneurship, driven by both consumer demand and a recognition of untapped market opportunities.

### Implications for India’s Startup Ecosystem

NORI’s success could have significant implications for India’s startup landscape, particularly in the consumer goods sector. By focusing on a niche market segment, NORI demonstrates how startups can carve out unique spaces in competitive industries. The company’s growth trajectory may inspire other entrepreneurs to explore underrepresented demographics, leading to more diverse product offerings and innovative business models.

The involvement of prominent investors like Vijay Shekhar Sharma also signals confidence in the potential of gender-specific products. As more startups emerge with similar focus areas, this could lead to increased competition and collaboration, fostering a more vibrant and dynamic startup ecosystem.

Looking ahead, NORI’s progress will be closely watched by investors and entrepreneurs alike. The next phase of the company’s development will likely involve scaling its operations and expanding its product range. For founders and investors, NORI’s journey offers valuable insights into the opportunities and challenges of building a brand that caters to specific consumer needs. As NORI continues to grow, it could redefine the standards for product innovation and inclusivity in the travel gear industry, setting a precedent for future ventures in India.
