India Set to Become Global Leader in AI-Driven Advertising, Says Redseer
Share

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing the global advertising sector, offering India a pivotal opportunity to become a leader in AI-driven advertising technology. According to a report by Redseer Strategy Consultants, AI is fundamentally transforming the advertising ecosystem, impacting areas from media buying and audience targeting to creative production and measurement.

### India’s Role in AI-Driven Advertising

The report, titled ‘Artificial Intelligence: The Next Growth Catalyst in Advertising,’ highlights AI’s pervasive influence across the advertising stack. As global advertising expenditure surpassed $1 trillion in 2025, with digital formats making up 75-80% of spending, AI-driven technologies are becoming crucial. India, with its robust technology talent pool, is well-positioned to capitalize on this shift. The country boasts around 2.7 million engineering and technology enrollments annually and a thriving community of 20-24 million GitHub developers. This foundation supports India’s potential to lead in developing advanced advertising platforms.

### Context and Competitive Landscape

The advertising industry is experiencing a paradigm shift with the integration of technologies such as machine learning-led bidding systems and transformer-based recommendation engines. Redseer estimates that 80-85% of digital advertising transactions are conducted programmatically, showcasing the growing reliance on automated, algorithm-driven processes. Indian-origin adtech companies are transitioning from being outsourced service providers to global product firms, which allows them to capture more significant margins. This shift is crucial as the industry seeks solutions in areas like brand safety, fraud detection, and measurement infrastructure—sectors plagued by inefficiencies resulting in billions of dollars in losses.

### Implications for India’s Startup Ecosystem

The domestic digital advertising market in India is projected to grow from approximately $21 billion in 2025 to between $33 billion and $42 billion by 2030. This rapid growth presents a lucrative opportunity for Indian startups to innovate and capture market share. As AI-native platforms and agentic commerce gain traction, India is not only poised to support the global transition but also to produce the next generation of global AdTech leaders. The country’s global capability centers (GCCs), generating $65-75 billion in exports annually, further bolster its standing in the international advertising technology arena.

India’s emergence as a hub for AI-driven advertising technology signifies a significant shift in the global advertising landscape. For Indian founders and engineers, the focus should be on harnessing AI to build scalable, innovative solutions that address the industry’s inefficiencies. Investors should keep an eye on emerging adtech startups that leverage India’s technical expertise and market potential, as these companies are likely to drive the next wave of growth in the sector. The ongoing evolution of AI in advertising is a key trend to watch, with the potential to reshape the industry and establish India as a global powerhouse in adtech innovation.
