Suminter India Organics has raised ₹25 crore in debt funding from BlackSoil to scale organic ingredient procurement.
Founder Sameer Mehra said the capital lets the company act decisively during procurement seasons and secure inputs from its network of over 100,000 smallholder farmers across India, the Philippines and Africa.
The Mumbai company, founded in 2003, sources spices, coconut products, oilseeds, cocoa, natural sweeteners and plant fibres for food brands in the US and Europe. It had scaled to 20,000 farmers across 110,000 acres by 2016.
BlackSoil Managing Director Ankur Bansal cited the company’s supply-chain strength as rationale for the investment. Suminter has held the Spices Board’s title of India’s largest organic spices exporter for four consecutive years.
