BML Munjal University and Ideabaaz Launch Women in Tech Accelerator Program
Share

The Propel Incubator at BML Munjal University (BMU), in collaboration with Ideabaaz, has launched the Women in Tech Accelerator Program. This 12-week initiative is designed to support women-led technology startups by offering structured mentorship, industry access, and investor-readiness support. The program aims to address the unique challenges faced by women entrepreneurs in India, particularly the limited access to capital, networks, and growth opportunities.

### The Program and Its Objectives

The Women in Tech Accelerator Program is set to provide a robust platform for business acceleration and market expansion for women-led startups. The inaugural cohort will feature five startups, focusing on sectors such as climate tech, healthcare, artificial intelligence, DeepTech, sustainability, automation, EdTech, and social innovation. These startups will gain the opportunity to present their ventures on a national stage during Season 2 of Ideabaaz, presenting to investors, industry leaders, and a television audience. The previous season of Ideabaaz saw 86 startups secure deals worth Rs 41 crore, highlighting the program’s potential for significant impact.

### Context and Funding Environment

BMU’s Propel Incubator, which has supported over 110 startups in the last five years, is known for its strong track record in facilitating external funding, amounting to over Rs 110 crore. The partnership with Ideabaaz aims to leverage this experience to bolster women-led ventures, providing them with critical resources and visibility. The accelerator program emerges at a time when the Indian startup ecosystem is increasingly recognizing the importance of diversity and inclusion, yet women entrepreneurs still face notable barriers. By focusing specifically on women in tech, the initiative seeks to bridge this gap and foster a more inclusive environment for innovation.

### Implications for India’s Startup Ecosystem

The launch of this accelerator program signifies an important step towards addressing gender disparity within India’s tech startup ecosystem. By offering targeted support to women entrepreneurs, it not only empowers them to build scalable businesses but also enriches the broader startup landscape with diverse ideas and solutions. This initiative aligns with the growing trend of accelerators and incubators prioritizing diversity, which is crucial for nurturing a well-rounded and competitive tech industry in India. The program’s focus on technology-driven solutions also positions it to contribute significantly to sectors that are crucial for India’s economic growth and sustainability goals.

The success of this initiative could pave the way for similar programs across India, potentially increasing the number of women-led startups and influencing investor strategies to focus more on diversity and inclusion. As the accelerator progresses, stakeholders will be keenly observing its impact on the participating startups and the broader implications for the startup ecosystem.

The next steps for the Women in Tech Accelerator Program include the selection of the inaugural cohort and the commencement of the 12-week program. For founders and investors, the performance and outcomes of these startups will be critical indicators of the program’s effectiveness and its potential to be replicated or expanded. As the program unfolds, it will be important to watch how these women-led ventures leverage the resources and visibility provided to scale their businesses and contribute to the tech ecosystem in India.
