Share

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron inaugurated Bharat Innovates 2026 in Nice on June 14, 2026, marking a significant step in showcasing India’s deep-tech prowess on a global stage. This three-day event highlights India’s growing role as an innovation hub and strengthens the India-France partnership, especially in the tech sector. The event is part of the India-France Year of Innovation and represents the first time India’s deep-tech sector is being presented abroad in such a dedicated manner.

### Showcasing India’s Deep-Tech Potential

Bharat Innovates 2026, taking place at the Palais des Expositions de Nice, serves as a platform for 120 Indian innovators and startups to display their advancements across 13 frontier sectors, including quantum computing, biotechnology, and clean energy. The event also features participation from around 15 higher education institutions and over 500 investors. According to the Ministry of Education, the showcased startups collectively hold more than 1,500 patents and have already secured over USD 1.5 billion in funding. Notable participants include drone manufacturer ideaForge and electric two-wheeler company Ather Energy, highlighting the diverse innovation landscape emerging from India.

### A Flourishing Ecosystem

The Indian startup ecosystem, now the third largest in the world, is home to over 230,000 startups, supported by a robust pool of engineers and a thriving culture of innovation. Prime Minister Modi emphasized India’s transition from a technology consumer to a solution contributor, inviting global investors to collaborate and co-create. This initiative aligns with the Indian government’s broader efforts, such as the ‘Make in India’ campaign, to position the nation as a manufacturing and innovation hub. President Macron’s commitment to welcoming 30,000 Indian students by 2030 and France’s support for various tech sectors further underscore the deepening bilateral ties.

### Implications for India’s Startup Ecosystem

The inauguration of Bharat Innovates 2026 not only strengthens India-France relations but also opens new avenues for Indian startups in the European market. The collaboration between iCreate, an Indian deep-tech incubator, and the Hauts-de-France Regional Council, exemplifies this trend by establishing the India-Hauts-de-France Bilateral Corridor for Deep Tech Innovation. This corridor aims to facilitate startup collaboration, market access, and technology commercialization, providing Indian startups with a gateway to European opportunities.

The showcase is a testament to India’s expanding influence in the global tech arena and sets the stage for increased cross-border partnerships and investments. For Indian entrepreneurs and startups, this event signifies a growing recognition of their potential and the opportunities that come with it.

### What’s Next?

As Bharat Innovates 2026 unfolds, the focus will be on the collaborations and partnerships that emerge from the event. For founders and investors, the success of this showcase could signal new investment trends and opportunities in the deep-tech sector. The outcomes of agreements like the India-Hauts-de-France Bilateral Corridor will be crucial to watch, as they could pave the way for future collaborations and set a precedent for other international partnerships. As the Indian startup ecosystem continues to grow, its integration into global markets will be a key area of interest for stakeholders across the tech industry.
