Damandeep Soni, a seasoned expert in scaling businesses, has joined as the Chief Business Officer (CBO) to spearhead AstroTalk’s burgeoning e-commerce venture. This move comes on the heels of Soni’s departure from GlobalBees, where he played a pivotal role in propelling the company to unicorn status.
Expanding AstroTalk’s E-commerce Horizon
AstroTalk, founded in 2017 by Puneet Gupta and Anmol Jain, has carved a niche in the astrology consultation market. The Noida-based startup connects users with astrologers for services ranging from horoscope readings to live prayers. With a robust presence in this domain, AstroTalk is now setting its sights on expanding its e-commerce platform. The AstroTalk Store, launched last year, offers a range of spiritual products including gemstones, healing stones, and accessories.
Anmol Jain, co-founder of AstroTalk, expressed confidence in Soni’s ability to transform their e-commerce vertical. "After building a Rs 1,400+ crore ARR business in astrology consultations, our customers expressed a growing need for a trusted source for all their spiritual product purchases. With Daman’s extensive experience in scaling e-commerce businesses, we are confident and bullish about transforming this vertical into another Rs 1,000 crore ARR business in the coming years," said Jain.
Damandeep Soni’s Proven Track Record
Soni’s track record speaks for itself. During his tenure at GlobalBees, he not only helped the company achieve unicorn status but also significantly boosted its marketing efforts. His previous roles at boAt, WeCash, Milkbasket, and MobiKwik have equipped him with a deep understanding of growth strategies and e-commerce dynamics.
AstroTalk’s leadership is banking on Soni’s expertise to drive rapid growth in their online store. His experience aligns perfectly with AstroTalk’s vision of reaching a broader audience through direct-to-consumer (D2C) channels.
Financial Milestones and Future Plans
AstroTalk’s financial performance underscores its growth trajectory. The startup reported a revenue increase to Rs 651.12 crore for fiscal 2024, up from Rs 283.32 crore the previous year. Profits also surged to Rs 99.99 crore from Rs 8.4 crore. With plans for an initial public offering in the next year or two, AstroTalk aims to nearly double its revenue to Rs 1,250 crore in fiscal 2025, targeting an operating profit between Rs 230 crore and Rs 250 crore.
