Empowering Women in Tech: Prosus Tech FoundHER Challenge Offers $50,000 Equity-Free Funding

In a significant move to address the gender funding gap in India’s technology sector, Prosus has launched the Tech FoundHER Challenge. This initiative offers $50,000 in equity-free funding to women-led startups, aiming to empower female entrepreneurs to scale their businesses and access international networks. The challenge, in partnership with Encubay and VAIA Climate, is a step towards creating a more inclusive tech ecosystem.

Bridging the Gender Equity Gap

"Encubay was built to bridge the equity gap for women entrepreneurs," says Deeksha Ahuja, Founder of Encubay. This challenge aligns perfectly with their mission of empowering female founders with capital, networks, and mentorship. Despite progress, women remain significantly underrepresented in tech and venture capital funding. Studies show that women-led startups receive less than 5% of global VC funding. The FoundHER Challenge seeks to address this disparity by providing opportunities rather than barriers.

Prosus, a major tech investor with nearly $9 billion invested in India across fintech, e-commerce, and food delivery, views this challenge as a strategic move to fuel innovation with a more inclusive investment approach. Prajna Khanna, Global Head of Sustainability at Prosus Group, emphasizes, "Women in tech don’t need more barriers—they need opportunities."

Application Process and Timeline

The challenge invites women-led tech startups to apply by April 4, 2025. Thirty startups will be shortlisted, with six finalists pitching in person on May 25, 2025, in Bangalore. Three winners will receive $50,000 in non-dilutive capital to accelerate their businesses. Beyond funding, the challenge provides access to an elite jury of investors and industry leaders, including Anjali Bansal from Avaana Capital and Archana Jahagirdar from Rukam Capital.

Encubay, which is spearheading the challenge alongside Prosus, boasts a network of over 10,000 founders, investors, and corporate partners. It has helped over 7,500 startups scale through capital access, strategic partnerships, and global expansion programs. "Encubay’s global network of founders, investors, and corporates will play a key role in supporting participating startups," adds Avneet Kohli, Founder of Encubay.

The Importance of Equity-Free Funding

Equity-free funding is crucial for startups as it allows entrepreneurs to retain control over their companies. This type of funding provides the necessary capital without diluting ownership, enabling founders to make strategic decisions that align with their vision. The Tech FoundHER Challenge’s equity-free funding is a significant advantage for women-led startups, allowing them to focus on growth and innovation.

Real-World Impact and Global Comparisons

The Tech FoundHER Challenge is not just about funding; it’s about creating a supportive ecosystem for women entrepreneurs. By offering mentorship and access to global networks, the challenge provides a platform for women to thrive in the tech industry. This initiative is similar to global programs like the Female Founders Fund in the US, which focuses on investing in women-led startups to drive innovation and diversity in the tech sector.

Why You Should Care

If you’re a female entrepreneur in the tech industry, the Tech FoundHER Challenge is an opportunity you shouldn’t miss. It offers not only financial support but also mentorship and access to a global network of investors and industry leaders. Participating in this challenge could be the catalyst your startup needs to scale and succeed in a competitive market.

Conclusion

The Prosus Tech FoundHER Challenge is a game-changer for women in tech, providing equity-free funding and a supportive ecosystem to help them thrive. By addressing the gender funding gap and promoting diversity in the tech industry, this initiative is paving the way for a more inclusive and innovative future. Whether you’re a startup founder or an industry leader, it’s time to support and invest in women-led startups for a brighter, more equitable tech landscape.
