EVeez Secures $5.4 Million to Drive Electric Mobility for Gig Workers

Introduction to EVeez’s Funding Success

EVeez, a Gurugram-based electric mobility-as-a-service (eMaaS) platform, has recently raised $5.4 million in a Series A funding round. The investment was led by the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, with contributions from Caret Capital, ThinKuvate, Ev2 Ventures, Barbershop With Shantanu, SailThru Ventures, and Ah Ventures Fund. This funding marks a significant milestone for EVeez as it aims to revolutionize mobility solutions for India’s burgeoning gig economy.

Focus on Affordable Electric Mobility

EVeez’s mission is to provide affordable, reliable electric two-wheeler subscriptions to gig workers, bridging the gap between mobility and employment opportunities. Co-founded by Abhishek Dwivedi and Gaurav Rathore in 2020, EVeez offers weekly subscription plans starting at Rs. 1,100. This model eliminates the upfront costs of vehicle ownership, making it accessible to individuals from low-income urban communities.

A Comprehensive Mobility Solution

What sets EVeez apart is its holistic approach to mobility. Beyond mere rentals, the platform includes:

  • Repairs and Insurance: Ensuring minimal downtime for gig workers.
  • Battery Swap Tie-ups: Facilitating easy access to charged batteries.
  • EV Training: Empowering workers with necessary skills.

This comprehensive service model allows gig workers to concentrate on their earnings without worrying about vehicle maintenance or financial burdens.

Strategic Expansion Plans

With a current fleet of 7,000 EVs across 15 cities, EVeez plans to expand to 30 cities and 50,000 vehicles by FY27. This growth is crucial as India is projected to have over 20 million gig workers soon. EVeez aims to enable over 40,000 new gig workers to join the workforce by FY27, aligning with its commitment to green the last mile and make electric mobility accessible to all.

The Gig Economy and EVeez’s Impact

The gig economy in India is rapidly growing, with platforms in quick commerce, food delivery, e-commerce, and ride-hailing witnessing increased participation. EVeez’s affordable subscription model is a game-changer for this sector, especially for first-time gig workers and those transitioning from internal combustion engine vehicles. Currently, 55% of EVeez’s users are new to the gig economy, highlighting the platform’s role in facilitating employment.

Industry Insights and Comparisons

EVeez’s approach is not unique globally. Companies like Lime and Bird in the US have pioneered similar models in micromobility, offering electric scooters and bikes on a subscription basis. These models have shown success in reducing urban congestion and promoting sustainable transport, similar to EVeez’s goals in India.

Challenges and Opportunities Ahead

While the funding is a positive step, EVeez faces challenges such as infrastructure development and regulatory hurdles. The success of its expansion plans will depend on overcoming these obstacles and enhancing its service offerings. The focus on battery swapping and training indicates a strategic approach to these challenges.

Conclusion

EVeez’s recent funding round underscores its potential to transform the gig economy in India through sustainable mobility solutions. As the company scales, its impact on employment and environmental sustainability could serve as a model for similar initiatives worldwide. The journey ahead is filled with opportunities and challenges, but EVeez’s innovative approach positions it well for future success.
