Founded in 2014, The Hosteller has rapidly expanded its footprint, operating over 75 properties across 13 states in India. The company has catered to more than 20 lakh travellers, offering an alternative to overpriced hotels and unreliable budget stays. With the new funding, The Hosteller aims to increase its capacity to 25,000 beds nationwide within the next 36 months. Additionally, the startup is developing a travel super app that will integrate accommodation, food and beverage services, mobility, and curated experiences into a single platform.

Pranav Dangi, Founder & CEO of The Hosteller, expressed confidence in the model, stating that the company’s growth trajectory and traveller satisfaction validate their approach. Over the past year, The Hosteller has added over 30 properties, increasing traveller capacity by nearly 70%.

Funding Environment and Competitive Landscape

The investment by PROMAFT Partners and V3 Ventures highlights a growing interest in India’s travel and hospitality sector, particularly in budget and experiential accommodations. PROMAFT Partners, which has previously invested in internet services startup Wiom, sees potential in The Hosteller’s business model. Soham Avlani, Founding General Partner at PROMAFT Partners, emphasized the shift in India’s travel market towards experiences over traditional star ratings, noting The Hosteller’s strong unit economics and high occupancy rates.

Arjun Vaidya, co-founder of V3 Ventures, praised the consistent experience and operational discipline maintained across The Hosteller’s properties. V3 Ventures has been supporting The Hosteller since its Series A round in 2024, and this continued backing underscores confidence in the startup’s strategic direction.

Implications for India’s Startup Ecosystem

The successful funding round for The Hosteller is indicative of a broader trend in India’s startup ecosystem, where niche markets and experiential services are gaining traction. As the travel industry recovers and evolves post-pandemic, companies like The Hosteller are well-positioned to capture the interest of a new generation of travellers seeking unique and affordable experiences.

The focus on integrating technology with traditional hospitality services through a super app also reflects a larger shift towards digital transformation in the sector. This approach aligns with the increasing demand for seamless and comprehensive travel solutions, potentially setting a precedent for other startups in the hospitality industry.

Looking Ahead

With the fresh capital, The Hosteller is poised to accelerate its expansion and technological integration. As it aims to reach its ambitious targets, the company will likely continue to attract attention from investors and travellers alike. The upcoming launch of its travel super app could further differentiate The Hosteller in a competitive market, offering a comprehensive solution for modern travellers.
