Art with a Cause: Celebrating Women Through Avyanna Exhibition

The Avyanna exhibition, launched by the art collective Oorja at the Bangalore International Centre, is a unique celebration of art and empowerment. This exhibition, featuring 60 artworks by 12 talented women artists from Bengaluru, coincides with International Women’s Day 2025. It aims to amplify women’s voices and raise funds for the Karunashraya Institute of Palliative Care Education and Research.

Avyanna: A Celebration of Strength and Beauty

Avyanna, meaning ‘strong, powerful, beautiful woman,’ is curated by the eminent artist MG Dodammani. The exhibition highlights the resilience and success of women, embracing their complexities and imperfections. It serves as a platform for dialogue and reflection, showcasing diverse artistic expressions that resonate with personal and societal experiences.

The Artists Behind Avyanna

The exhibition features works by Aarti Nichlani, Bina Mirchandani, Esha John, Evanka Thimmaiah, Kanthi V, Neelam Malhotra, Nidhi Bhatia, Pramila S Raja, Pushpa Reddy, Shruti Banerji, Ritu Chawla Mathur, and Vanaja Bal. Each artist brings a unique perspective, offering viewers a spectrum of thought-provoking and relevant artistic expressions. These artworks are not just visual treats but also emotional connectors, providing new insights into the artists’ personal journeys and societal observations.

Art as a Catalyst for Change

MG Dodammani, the curator, emphasizes art’s power to express emotions and spark conversations. He notes that art can build a compassionate society, bridging gaps and celebrating diversity. This exhibition is a testament to the role of artists as catalysts for change, using their medium to inspire, transform, and collaborate for a better world.

Supporting a Noble Cause

The exhibition supports Karunashraya, a collaborative project of the Indian Cancer Society and the Rotary Club of Bangalore, Indira Nagar. Through the Bangalore Hospice Trust, it offers free palliative care for advanced-stage cancer patients. The proceeds from the auction of a specially-created collective artwork by the 12 participating artists will be donated to this cause, making a tangible difference in the lives of many.

The Impact of Art on Society

Art has always been a powerful medium for societal impact. It can transcend boundaries, foster understanding, and promote empathy. The Avyanna exhibition is a prime example of how art can be leveraged to support a cause, engage communities, and initiate meaningful dialogue.

Personal Reflections and Broader Implications

As you explore the Avyanna exhibition, consider the broader implications of art in society. How can art be used to address other pressing issues? What role can you play in supporting art initiatives that aim to make a difference? These questions invite you to reflect on your own contributions to a more compassionate and inclusive world.

Conclusion

The Avyanna exhibition is more than just an art display; it’s a celebration of women, a support for a noble cause, and a catalyst for societal change. It challenges us to pause, reflect, and harness our creative sides for a better world. As you engage with the artworks and the stories behind them, consider how you can contribute to this ongoing dialogue and support the causes that resonate with you.
