RISA Labs Raises $3.5 Million to Revolutionize Cancer Care with AI-Driven Solutions

In the rapidly evolving landscape of health technology, RISA Labs, a Silicon Valley-based startup founded by IIT Kanpur alumni, is making waves. With a recent seed funding round of $3.5 million, the company is set to transform cancer care by addressing delays caused by prior authorization bottlenecks. This funding round was led by Flipkart co-founder Binny Bansal, with contributions from Oncology Ventures, General Catalyst, z21 Ventures, ODD BIRD VC, and Ashish Gupta.

The Urgency of Timely Cancer Care

Cancer care is not just about treatment; it’s about timing. Delays can significantly impact patient outcomes. According to Ben Freeberg, Managing Partner at Oncology Ventures, "Seventy percent of cancer patients experience delays in care because of prior authorization requirements." In some cases, these delays can extend to a month, increasing the risk of mortality by 13% for certain cancer types. This is where RISA Labs steps in with its innovative platform, BOSS (Business Operating System as a Service).

What Makes BOSS Unique?

BOSS is designed to automate complex administrative workflows within healthcare systems. Unlike traditional solutions that simply layer AI on existing systems, BOSS integrates intelligence deep into operations. This allows organizations to double their productivity overnight. At one U.S. cancer center, BOSS reduced prior authorization times from 30 minutes to under five and processed over $1 million worth of medication, freeing up 80% of administrative staff time and reducing costs by 66%.

Kshitij Jaggi, RISA Labs co-founder and CEO, emphasizes, "BOSS is an AI operating system designed for the post-ChatGPT era—where work is no longer about learning tools, but expressing intent." This approach allows healthcare providers to focus on what truly matters: patient care.

Founders’ Vision and Background

RISA Labs was founded in 2024 by Kshitij Jaggi and Kumar Shivang, who previously built Urban Health. Their frustration with fragmented healthcare workflows led them to create a foundational AI system capable of orchestrating institutional operations end to end. Their academic exploration resulted in the co-authored paper "Digital Twin Ecosystem in Oncology Clinical Operations," which laid the groundwork for RISA’s commercial platform.

The Impact and Future of RISA Labs

The platform’s impact is already evident. Dr. Jeffrey Vacirca, CEO of New York Cancer and Blood Specialists, states, "What RISA is building is not just smart technology. It removes barriers so our teams can move faster and stay focused on what matters most: caring for patients."

Looking ahead, RISA plans to expand its reach across various touchpoints in oncology—from providers and life sciences companies to care coordination platforms. The goal is to position BOSS as the AI orchestration layer for the entire cancer care ecosystem.

The Broader Implications of AI in Healthcare

RISA Labs’ story is not just about a single startup; it’s about the broader implications of AI in healthcare. As AI agents unbundle the $4.6 trillion services industry, companies like RISA are turning automation into real-world clinical impact. This transformation is crucial, especially when considering the complexities and inefficiencies that plague current healthcare systems.

The Road Ahead: Challenges and Opportunities

While the potential is immense, challenges remain. Integrating AI into healthcare requires navigating regulatory landscapes, ensuring data privacy, and maintaining the human touch in patient care. Yet, the opportunities are equally significant. By leveraging AI, healthcare providers can streamline operations, reduce costs, and, most importantly, improve patient outcomes.

Conclusion: A Call to Action for the Healthcare Industry

The journey of RISA Labs serves as a call to action for the healthcare industry. It’s a reminder that innovation, when driven by a clear mission and supported by robust technology, can lead to transformative change. As you navigate the complexities of healthcare, consider how AI can be a catalyst for improvement. What barriers can you remove to ensure timely and effective patient care? The answers may well define the future of healthcare.
