Delhivery Welcomes Back Milind Sharma: A Strategic Move for Rapid Commerce and D2C Brands

Focus Keyword: Delhivery Rapid Commerce

In a significant move for the logistics industry, Delhivery has appointed Milind Sharma as the head of its Rapid Commerce and D2C brands. This announcement marks a notable return for Sharma, who was a pivotal part of Delhivery’s founding team in 2012. His reappointment is set to drive the company’s growth in the ever-evolving rapid commerce sector.

His focus will be on expanding Delhivery’s Rapid Commerce service, which promises intracity deliveries within a two-to-four-hour window from dark stores. Additionally, Sharma will oversee Delhivery’s entire direct-to-consumer (D2C) product portfolio, aiming to enhance the company’s same-day and next-day delivery services.

The Entrepreneurial Journey of Milind Sharma

Before rejoining Delhivery, Sharma co-founded PepperTap, a hyperlocal grocery delivery service that reportedly reached annual revenues of over $200 million. His entrepreneurial journey also includes founding Nuvo Logistics, which expanded to over 75 cities before its acquisition by Shadowfax. Sharma’s expertise in quick commerce was further honed with the launch of Flyo and Mabel, ventures in the quick commerce and jewelry commerce sectors, respectively.

Sahil Barua, Chief Executive Officer of Delhivery, welcomed Sharma back, highlighting his understanding of the company’s DNA and the logistics industry. "Having been part of our early journey, he understands our DNA and what it takes to build and scale in this space," Barua noted.

Delhivery’s Financial Performance and Future Prospects

Delhivery’s financial performance has been robust, with a 114% jump in net profit to Rs 25 crore in Q3FY25. The company’s revenue from operations stood at Rs 2,378 crore, marking an 8% year-on-year increase. This growth underscores Delhivery’s strategic focus on rapid commerce and D2C brands, areas where Sharma’s leadership is expected to make a significant impact.

The Growing Importance of Rapid Commerce

The rapid commerce industry is witnessing exponential growth, driven by consumer demand for faster delivery times. According to a report by Statista, the global quick commerce market is expected to reach $20 billion by 2025. Delhivery’s strategic focus on rapid commerce aligns with these trends, positioning the company to capitalize on this burgeoning market.

Sharma’s return to Delhivery comes at a crucial time as the company aims to strengthen its foothold in the rapid commerce sector. His experience in building high-growth ventures and his understanding of consumer businesses will be instrumental in driving Delhivery’s growth.

Insights and Implications for the Logistics Industry

Sharma’s reappointment is a testament to Delhivery’s commitment to innovation and growth. It raises intriguing questions about the future of logistics and rapid commerce. How will Delhivery leverage Sharma’s expertise to enhance its service offerings? What strategies will the company adopt to stay ahead in the competitive logistics landscape?

The logistics industry is at a crossroads, with rapid commerce and D2C brands reshaping consumer expectations. Companies like Delhivery are poised to lead this transformation, leveraging technology and strategic leadership to meet evolving market demands.

Conclusion

Milind Sharma’s return to Delhivery is more than just a professional move; it’s a strategic decision that underscores the company’s commitment to growth and innovation. As the logistics industry continues to evolve, Delhivery’s focus on rapid commerce and D2C brands positions it as a leader in the sector. With Sharma at the helm, the company is well-equipped to navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
