First Moon Hotel Planned by Nvidia and Y Combinator–Backed Startup GRU

A Bold New Frontier: The First Moon Hotel by GRU Space

In a move that feels straight out of a sci-fi novel, GRU Space, a startup backed by Y Combinator and Nvidia, is setting its sights on the Moon. They plan to open the first hotel on the lunar surface by 2032, offering an unprecedented leap in space tourism. This ambitious project is not just about luxury; it’s about pioneering a new era of off-world hospitality.

The Vision for Lunar Hospitality

Founded in 2025 by entrepreneur Skyler Chan, GRU Space aims to lead the charge in commercial lunar infrastructure. The company’s mission is to build a lunar hotel capable of hosting multi-day stays for space tourists. Imagine waking up to views of both the Moon and Earth, a reality that GRU Space intends to make possible.

The hotel will be an inflatable habitat module, constructed on Earth and transported to the Moon via a heavy-lift lander. Initially accommodating four guests, it will serve as a stepping stone to more permanent lunar habitation.

Roadmap to the Moon

GRU Space has laid out a detailed plan:

  • 2029: A technology demonstration to validate the deployment of inflatable habitats and other critical systems.
  • 2031: Deployment of larger payloads and preparatory systems on the Moon.
  • 2032: The anticipated opening of the lunar hotel to guests.

The company plans to use in-situ resource utilization (ISRU) technology to convert lunar regolith into durable materials, potentially expanding structures with native lunar resources.

Booking Your Lunar Stay

Despite the engineering and regulatory challenges, GRU Space is already accepting reservations. Prospective guests can secure their spots with deposits ranging from $250,000 to $1 million. Final pricing is expected to place the hotel firmly in the ultra-luxury tier, with room rates possibly exceeding $400,000 per night. This early booking model underscores both the commercial confidence and speculative risk involved in redefining space tourism.

Backing and Broader Vision

GRU Space’s inclusion in Y Combinator’s accelerator program and its association with Nvidia provide credibility and visibility. The company has also garnered interest from investors linked to SpaceX and defense firm Anduril. Beyond tourism, GRU Space envisions contributing to broader off-world infrastructure, supporting future lunar bases and even Mars settlements.

Challenges and Opportunities

Critics have noted the ambitious timeline and technical hurdles, highlighting that lunar commercial operations remain largely uncharted. However, the potential rewards are immense. The lunar hotel is positioned as an early milestone toward scalable and sustainable human presence beyond Earth.

A New Era of Space Tourism

The concept of a moon hotel raises intriguing questions. How will this change our perception of travel? What impact will it have on our understanding of luxury and adventure? The answers will unfold as GRU Space progresses toward its 2032 goal.

In the realm of space tourism, GRU Space is not just reaching for the stars; they’re aiming for the Moon. As you consider the future of travel, could a lunar getaway be on your horizon?
