Share

Oracle has partnered with the Uttar Pradesh State Skill Development Mission (UPSDM) to offer complimentary training in AI, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and data science to 300,000 students and professionals by 2029. This initiative is aimed at enhancing employability and creating a future-ready talent pool that can support an innovation-driven economy, a critical move as India continues to establish itself as a global technology hub.

### Oracle and Its Initiative

Oracle’s collaboration with UPSDM is set to provide over 300 hours of structured learning through Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), OCI Enterprise AI, OCI Data Science, Oracle APEX, OCI DevOps, and Oracle Security. The training will be delivered via Oracle MyLearn, a platform from Oracle University that is used globally by millions of learners. Participants will have the opportunity to earn professional certifications and badges, showcasing their readiness for specialized roles in the tech industry.

Shailender Kumar, Oracle’s senior vice-president and regional managing director for India and NetSuite JAPAC, emphasized Oracle’s dedication to supporting India’s aspirations to become a leading hub for AI and digital innovation. By aligning with UPSDM, Oracle aims to merge its global expertise with state-level training infrastructure to empower learners across Uttar Pradesh.

### Context and Competitive Landscape

The partnership comes at a time when India is witnessing a significant push towards skilling its workforce in digital technologies. The Indian government and private sector are increasingly focusing on initiatives that prepare the youth for opportunities in a tech-driven global economy. Uttar Pradesh, with one of the largest youth populations in the country, is strategically positioned to leverage this initiative to build a skilled workforce.

In the highly competitive landscape of tech education and skill development, Oracle’s initiative faces competition from other tech giants and edtech companies offering similar training programs. Companies like Microsoft, Google, and AWS are also actively engaging in skill development programs across India, reflecting the growing demand for skilled professionals in cloud computing and AI.

### Implications for India’s Startup Ecosystem

The collaboration between Oracle and Uttar Pradesh is set to have significant implications for India’s startup ecosystem. By equipping a large number of students and professionals with in-demand digital skills, the initiative can bridge the skills gap that often challenges startups in hiring qualified talent. This could lead to a more robust and dynamic startup environment, particularly in tech-centric sectors such as SaaS, fintech, and digital infrastructure.

Furthermore, the initiative aligns with India’s broader digital economy goals by fostering a talent pipeline that can sustain the country’s burgeoning tech industry. Pulkit Khare, mission director of UPSDM, highlighted the importance of making industry-relevant skills accessible at a large scale, which can be a game-changer for the state’s economic growth and digital transformation.

### What to Watch Next

As this initiative unfolds, stakeholders in India’s tech sector should monitor its impact on the employability of graduates and professionals in Uttar Pradesh. For founders and investors, the availability of a skilled workforce could significantly influence the growth trajectories of new and existing startups in the region. The success of this collaboration could also set a precedent for similar initiatives across other states, contributing to India’s goal of becoming a global leader in digital innovation.
